EBV Solubility

Question:

Could you please give me informations about the solubility of the EBV cell extract? I have tried to dialyse the lot number D0421045 in a physiological buffer (PBS 1X) and the EBV proteins precipitated during the process.

Resolution:

My first question would be are you sure that it was EBV proteins that precipitated? This extract is not 100% pure and it is very possible that the EBV proteins of interest are still in solution. You will need to confirm this using western blot. As I recall from previous experiments done here, there is very little EBV activity in that preciptate.

To minimize the precipitation, you can try the suggestion in the following KnowledgeBase entry:

Glycine is a good solubilization buffer because of its zwitterionic character. Keeping it around is a good thing in most cases - you might consider adjusting the pH or just diluting it (avoiding dialysis).

Hope this helps,
